What is the purpose?
Recall helps track competition placements and finalists across time and a multitude of Balboa festivals. This tool is for competitors and organizers alike.
Where is this data coming from?
All data is sourced from websites, YouTube, RP Scoring, or other festival scoresheets. Pure Balboa, Slow Balboa, Switch, and Invitational divisions are exempt from this project. Everything you see here is already public, simply aggregated in a single place for easy viewing!
What type of data is shown?
The majority of the festivals we show data for meet the following criteria:
- Mid to large sized attendance
- Have GREATER than one level of competition for any one division (am + open or adv + open, etc.)
Sorry, we do NOT show ALTERNATES. This is because this data is even more incomplete than the rest that we aggregate.
Why don't I see results for XYZ festival?
A handful of festivals either don't make their results public or don't provide complete results. Missing scoresheets or placements can mean that results aren't available for a specific year or division. Examples include:
- NYC Bal Week
- Roma Balboa Festival
- Beijing Balboa Fever
Email your organizers to make this data public! We'll update our database accordingly.
Why nothing older than 2020?
Intentional. Our data only goes back as far as 2020, for now.
What is a Level Holdover?
A Level Holdover is a competitor who has placed at a level and kept competing at that same level or lower without moving up. Placements at Open level are exempt because it is the top level.
This term is not to be used to police which divisions someone should compete in. It simply points out patterns in the placement data we receive.
What if I compete in multiple roles?
We differentiate the role a dancer competed in for each entry, however we plot all data out on combined bar charts and graphs.
